Hi everybody! Its been a while.
Last week, I actually forgot to write the blog. Oops! However, also to my luck, the evenings fit together quite nicely as they are shorter so I’ve put them into one post. Enjoy!
09/11/18 – The Great Scout Breakfast
Last week, we decided to get some practice in for The Big Breakfast. This is a district event held at 79th in which teams from across Pang Valley come together one Saturday morning and try and cook the best breakfast on an altar fire for a panel of judges.
However the weather wasn’t particularly spectacular, so a majority of the troop used the gas burners inside. However, Ben, Neil and I took some of the willing Scouts outside to cook under the hammock hut. Despite the wood being wet, both groups managed to get a fire going and deliver some very tasty sausages which bodes well for the Big Breakfast. I also heard some great things from inside as well which is fantastic.
16/11/18 -Beyond the Frame
This week at Scouts, we decided to take it slow and chill out. A few weeks ago, we taught the Scouts some photography basics and how to get some nice pictures. We saw the result of that on Friday Night. Many Scouts got up and presented their photos to the troop talking about their artistic choices and process. We also got to hear a little about where the photos were taken and the experiences surrounding them which I thought was nice.
Ben and I also got to round the night off with a little discussion about Scouting in general. We talked very briefly about the promise and the laws trying to get the core values of what we stand for as Scouts into the minds of all the Scouts.
We also decided to talk about the personal meaning of Scouts because everyone who attends Scouts has a reason for attending even the Leaders. It was nice to hear some of the responses to the topic and its fair to say everybody had something to contribute.
We also invested 2 Scouts: Joseph and Charlie. A big welcome from everybody at Chieftains.
Next week, the meeting will have 2 parts. The first will be finishing photo presentations and the other will be led by Ciaran as part of his Jamboree preparations.
Until next week,
Ellis
